![]() ![]() Surrounding the island are grass flats and to the east of the island is the Indian Key Channel. There are mooring buoys on the west side of the island for day use. Fishing within 100 feet of the dock is prohibited. You can enjoy hiking trails, learning the history of the island, and fish from the shore. Today it is a state park accessible only by boat. Later the the first county seat for Dade County in 1836. This island was originally purchased by Jacob Housman in 1831 and was the hub for his wrecking and salvaging empire.
